Hyphae Mail

Terms of service

Last updated 13 October 2026

The service

Hyphae Mail ("the service", operated by hyphae) encrypts messages in your browser and sends them through your own Gmail account, delivering the decryption key to recipients over Matrix. By using the service you agree to these terms and to our privacy policy.

Your account and responsibilities

Encryption means we cannot recover your messages

Because messages are encrypted in your browser, Gmail holds only ciphertext and we cannot decrypt it for you. If a recipient has no Matrix ID, or the key message is lost or deleted, the message may be unreadable, and we cannot fix that.

Availability and changes

We may change, suspend or discontinue the service at any time. We may suspend access that we reasonably believe breaches these terms or puts the service or others at risk.

No warranty

The service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, to the fullest extent permitted by law. We do not guarantee that messages will be delivered, will avoid spam filters, or that the encryption cannot be defeated.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, hyphae is not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential damages, or for loss of data, arising from your use of the service.

Contact and changes to these terms

We may update these terms and will change the date above when we do. Questions: hmail-support@googlegroups.com.
